I work with people from out of state all the time, which is not a big surprise since I have heard that only 1 in 12 Floridians is a native (like myself). Because I am a huge college football fan, the question inevitably comes up "what is it about Florida and football?" The Gators answered that question last night against the "top offense in college football history." Armed with only the "fourth best quarterback in the big 12", the Florida Gators won their second national championship in three years. If you read my blog, you know that I like statistics. Here is an interesting one I learned - there are three active coaches with two national championships. Two of the three are here in the state of Florida. Bobby Bowden at Florida State University, Urban Meyer at the University of Florida, and Joe Paterno of Penn State.

My alma mater University of Central Florida is certainly my favorite college football team, but I am a fan of all of Florida's teams. Getting back to the question "what is it about Florida and football?" Football is a tough sport, and it is even tougher here in the Sunshine State. It is hotter and more humid than most other areas of the country. The competition is fierce, since the state of Florida produces more 1A caliber athletes than pretty much any other place in the country. Don't forget the great talent from elsewhere in the country that wants to come here. That kind of talent forged in the heat of the Florida sunshine, and you get some pretty strong teams.

We love our football here in Florida, but the thing that makes it all work is the fact that people love Florida. We have sunshine and beaches, lots of open space and parks. You can enjoy the outside year round. We have resorts and theme parks, NASA and ports. The only thing we are missing are mountains and snow. Of course, it's usually the snow that drives people our way. So, I say don't bet against Florida. Good things happen here. Just ask the couple who just moved down here from Tennessee. They literally could live anywhere in the country with their jobs, and they were in their car driving to Orlando the day after they finished school. Come find out what they already know. Florida is not just a great place to visit, it is a great place to live.
