On a side note: The University of Central Florida with the new Fall enrollment is now the third largest university in the country and the largest in Florida. While bigger is not always better, a university's reputation is built upon it's alumni. A young university like UCF can give itself an edge by growing and graduating quality students that build on that reputation. In recent college rankings, UCF was mentioned as number five among up and coming universities. Dr. John Hitt came to UCF with the vision of becoming the premier metropolitan university in the country and a plan to achieve that goal. Through community and business partnerships, not only has the university grown in size, but it has become one of the leading research institutions in the country garnering millions of dollars in grant funding. This type of partnering and the growth in areas like the new medical school is also paying big dividends for the Orlando community overall. Orlando has a more diversified economic base and is poised for a terrific economic turnaround, like few other places in the country.
