Orlando - Where Did All These People Come From

April 9th, 2014 3:17 PM by David W. Welch

It may be a "no-brainer" that a lot of folks may move from nearby Georgia to The City Beautiful. Orlando and Atlanta are less than six hours apart driving. Given the ridiculously cold weather up north this year, it is understandable that so many people from The Windy City and The Big Apple have moved to warmer climes. Some of the other top cities may not be as obvious. I heard a statistics once that 95% of all Americans will visit Orlando in their lifetime. Last year 57 million people visited our city from all over the globe. Our metropolitan area has about 2 million residents and another 1 million visitors each week.

Most people only think of Orlando as the tourism mecca that it is. Don't stop there though. Orlando is also quite the technology hub; the gaming and simulation industries are huge here and may be attracting talent from the Lone Star State, Vegas and LA. We also have a burgeoning Medical City boasting the brand new UCF Medical School, Burnham Biomedical Research, Nemours Childrens Hospital and coming soon the new VA Hospital. Downtown Orlando is developing a digital village with two of the top ten digital media programs in the country at Full Sail and the University of Central Florida. So check out this "mobile migration map" provided by Spokeo to see where the new folks are coming from. I was lucky enough to be born in Central Florida.
